Regional Schools Program Coordinators
Vancouver/Lower Mainland: Nash Vuletic Nash Vuletic, Director of the In-School Program for the Lower Mainland, has been thrilled to be involved with Tennis BC for the past seven years. Through this time, Nash and his team at Tennis XL have developed a standardized In-School Program that now reaches over 30,000 students per year.The team has seen extreme success by working closely and developing relationships with school teachers, PAC’s and Community Centre’s which has given the Tennis XL team a successful increase of participation year over year.Since the beginning of the In-School program Nash and his team have sold over 15,000 Wilson racquets at reduced cost. This has allowed the game of tennis to be accessible to students from all economic demographics. Nash has 15 years of coaching experience in Yugoslavia, Germany, Malta, and Canada. In BC he has been Head-Pro and Assistant-Pro in North Shore Winter Club, and Assistant–Pro in UBC Tennis Club, Arbutus, and Hollyburn.
Langley, Abbotsford: Darrell Krell In the past 3 years, Darrell has continued to introduce many children, youth and adults to the game of tennis with try/learn/play opportunities in partnership with Langley Parks & Recreation, Tennis B.C. and Tennis Canada. As the coordinator for the Tennis BC Schools Program for Langley, Darrell is working closely with the school district to introduce children to the game of tennis. He has been able to assist in acquiring equipment and information to develop the game for our local schools. He has been working hard to develop more tennis pathways for Langley and has added more tennis lessons and has developed an intermediate level for Langley Parks & Recreation. Darrell is also a member of the Langley City Parks & Recreation Commission, which is responsible for the development and expansion of facilities and services in Langley. He is a member of the evaluation committee for the South Fraser Tennis Society.
Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton Region: Kirk Patterson Kirk grew up in Toronto and started playing tennis at the age of 9. He spent endless hours of his youth hanging out at his local community club - North York Tennis Club. He played competitively in OTA tournaments and for the University of Toronto Tennis Team. His passion for all sports - particularly outdoor activities, led him to relocate to Whistler in 2000. He currently coaches snowboarding in the winter at Whistler-Blackcomb and tennis year round at the Whistler Racquet Club. Kirk has organized community and schools tennis programs in the Sea to Sky corridor for several years and has recently tied in fundraising efforts to expand the programs and improve the learning pathways. Children involved in the Sea to Sky schools program have the option of joining the school tennis team and practicing for their first ever tennis tournament at no additional cost. In 2007, the 2nd Annual Sea to Sky Schools Tennis Championships was a completely funded progressive tennis event featuring categories for mini-tennis, ¾ court, and full court doubles. There were almost 200 participants in grades 4-7.
Vancouver Island (South): Dean Gillis Dean is a former national level player, and recipient of a NCAA university scholarship. He has organized over thirty (30) tournaments, and initiated a number of high profile events, including the $10,000 Labatt's Wood Racquets Tournament. He is the coordinator of the Cedar Hill Recreation Centre in the district of Saanich, and a Certified Club Pro 2. He is also responsible for organizing the Tennis B.C. South Island League and coordinating the Tennis BC School Program in Greater Victoria. He is one of our valued Community Champions, building tennis communities on Vancouver Island and receiving the Gold Award from Tennis Canada for his initiatives in "growing the game" at Cedar Hill (TDC). Assisting Dean with the schools program delivery are certified coaches Nathan Bailey, Sam Stinson, Joel Hamm and Nick Coutts.
Central Okanagan (Kelowna, Westbank): Willie Jung Willie Jung is a Certified Club Pro I and has been coaching for the past 3 years. He is the Central Okanagan's Tennis BC Schools Program Facilitator, as well as teaching regular programs and tennis camps with Parkinson Rec Centre. Willie has passion for the game and is committed to helping see the game of tennis grow throughout the Okanagan.
Shuswap (Vernon, Salmon Arm): Doug Rawson Doug has been involved in sports, both as a competitor and a coach, for most of his life. He has coached hockey, down hill Skiing and Martial arts over the years as well as being a Certified Personal Trainer. He began teaching tennis in 2002 and became a Club Pro 1 in 2004. He has been involved in the Building Tennis Strategy as a community champion for the past 3 years working on getting new courts in Salmon Arm and Enderby as well as working with Parks and Rec. in several communities running spring and summer programs. Doug is also delivering the TBC in schools programs in School District 83 and 22 and is a director and the club pro at the Salmon Arm Tennis Club where he runs their lesson and JR. programs
